Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the holding stalls, it was noted PICKETT had lost its left hind plate. This plate was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, JOLLY GAINS was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left hind leg and was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of JOLLY GAINS. Before being allowed to race again, JOLLY GAINS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After being boxed, FLASHING STAR broke through. FLASHING STAR was reined in at the 600 Metres and returned to the Start where it was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of FLASHING STAR. Before being allowed to race again, FLASHING STAR will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial. Whilst in the barriers, PICKETT became fractious and reared. Before being allowed to race again, PICKETT will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. PICKETT then began awkwardly and lost ground. In the early part of the Straight, BLUE GENES got its head on the side, shifted in and raced tight outside FLYING SPRINTER. When questioned, B Prebble (SYDNEY OWNER), which was having its first start in Hong Kong, said due to the delay at the start after the runners had been boxed caused by another runner breaking through, his mount relaxed. He said he was reluctant to "wake" her up too much as in a barrier trial she had become agitated in the barrier stalls. He said as a consequence SYDNEY OWNER was slow to begin. He said SYDNEY OWNER gradually improved her position and travelled satisfactorily in the run, however, making the Home Turn became unbalanced and dipped. He said after this SYDNEY OWNER did not finish the race off. He did add prior to arriving in Hong Kong SYDNEY OWNER had been slow to begin in some of its races and also had performed better over distances of further than 1000 Metres. SYDNEY OWNER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, SYDNEY OWNER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SYDNEY OWNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHADOW KNIGHT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SHADOW KNIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. BLUE GENES and OUR JET were sent for sampling.
