Racing Incident Report

LUCKY PARADISE, second Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 9.6.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore). Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY PARADISE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FANTASTIC SUN, KINGIFLY and ENGINEERING WONDER were slow to begin. On jumping, DR GREEN was bumped by CANNONISE which shifted out after being bumped by STRONG GAIN which began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly. At the 800 Metres, CALIFORNIA PRINCE and DR GREEN were crowded for room inside the heels of GROOM RAIDER (M W Leung) which shifted in when not properly clear. M W Leung was advised to exercise care. STRONG GAIN made the turn near the 700 Metres awkwardly and lost ground. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, CANNONISE and EXPECTATIONS bumped and LIBERAL'S KNIGHT bumped the running rail. Near the 500 Metres, CALIFORNIA PRINCE became unbalanced and lost ground. After the 400 Metres, GROOM RAIDER, which was commencing to give ground, became unbalanced and was steadied away from the heels of DR GREEN after initially being carried out by CALIFORNIA PRINCE. No action was taken. LIBERAL'S KNIGHT, which was following, was shifted to the outside of GROOM RAIDER and as a consequence STRONG GAIN was carried wider on the track. M W Leung (GROOM RAIDER) said because of the wide draw he was required to make use of his mount to cross and race with the lead as instructed. He said while GROOM RAIDER travelled satisfactorily, the horse was not in his opinion completely comfortable on today's wet track conditions. He said because of the use he made of GROOM RAIDER in the early stages, the horse failed to respond to his riding in the Home Straight. KINGIFLY, GROOM RAIDER and CANNONISE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, KINGIFLY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had bled from both nostrils. A veterinary inspection of GROOM RAIDER and CANNONISE after the race did not show any significant findings. STRONG GAIN, OUR JET and LIBERAL'S KNIGHT were sent for sampling.
