Racing Incident Report

GOOD RUNNER was withdrawn on 17.12.22 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (heart irregularity) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter UNITED WE STAND (Apprentice Y L Chung). Before being allowed to race again, GOOD RUNNER will be required to perform satisfactorily in a barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
HOLY POWER shifted out at the start and brushed SUPER WISE DRAGON which in turn shifted out and bumped MACH TEN. SUPER WISE DRAGON, MACH TEN and E RAINBOW were then crowded for room between HOLY POWER and EASY SNIP which shifted in after being brushed by UNITED WE STAND. In this incident, HOLY POWER became unbalanced after being bumped on the hindquarters by SUPER WISE DRAGON.
From wide barriers, MASTER OF LUCK and BRAVE DREAMS were shifted across behind runners in the early stages.
From the outside barrier, HERO ICON was ridden along for a considerable distance in the early stages to obtain a forward position.
Near the 1100 Metres, E RAINBOW blundered when positioned close to the heels of MACH TEN which was being steadied to obtain cover.
Approaching the 1100 Metres, MACH TEN got its head up when being steadied to obtain cover and racing tight outside SUPER WISE DRAGON which was taken wider by HOLY POWER.
Approaching the 1000 Metres, both EASY SNIP and SUPER WISE DRAGON were steadied away from the heels of HAR HAR AT HEART (V Borges) which shifted in. V Borges was reprimanded and told to ensure that he provides sufficient clearance when shifting ground in similar circumstances.
J McNeil (MACH TEN) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of E RAINBOW, resulting in that horse being unnecessarily crowded for room and taken in onto GOLD TACK which resulted in GOLD TACK losing ground when crowded for room inside E RAINBOW. J McNeil was suspended from riding in races for a period to commence on Saturday, 24 December 2022 and to expire on Thursday, 29 December 2022 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).
Approaching the 800 Metres, BRAVE DREAMS was left racing wide and without cover.
At the 400 Metres, HERO ICON shifted out away from the heels of HAR HAR AT HEART which also shifted out marginally.
Passing the 350 Metres, EASY SNIP was shifted in away from the heels of HERO ICON.
Approaching the 200 Metres, E RAINBOW was shifted in a number of horses to obtain clear running.
Passing the 50 Metres, MASTER OF LUCK was awkwardly placed outside the heels of BRAVE DREAMS.
After the race, Z Purton was not able to offer any explanation for the disappointing performance of HUGE WIN which he said gave ground noticeably over the latter stages of the race after coming under pressure prior to the 600 Metres to maintain its position. A veterinary inspection of HUGE WIN immediately following the race which included an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse’s trachea.
A veterinary inspection of HERO ICON immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
UNITED WE STAND, HOLY POWER and BRAVE DREAMS were sent for sampling.
