He said as a result he then elected to shift to the outside of the eventual winner in an attempt to obtain clear running, however, became held up behind two runners for some distance near the 400M. He further added that from the 350M he was unable to fully test his mount when positioned behind a runner and did not obtain clear running until approaching the 150M where he shifted his mount to the outside of another runner to obtain clear running. After considering his explanation, the Stewards found the tactics adopted by rider were reasonable in the circumstances. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 169.
5 G322  HAPPY HERO  09/11/2024   169  HAPPY HERO (G322) when questioned, rider stated that the preference was to ride his mount conservatively from its wide barrier, but if the pace of the race was not quick he had an option to hold a more forward position. He said after his mount commenced well, his mount was able to obtain a handy position, however, was obliged to race wide and without cover. He further stated that he was reluctant to allow his mount to stride forward in the middle stages as he was of the opinion that that would result in the pace of the event increasing as he felt the leaders would resist his attempts to cross to the front. Trainer confirmed the instructions issued - Race 169.

When that runner then lay in, the horse was checked to avoid that runner. When questioned regarding his riding out over the concluding stages, rider stated that after improving behind a runner when that runner shifted in towards the rail, he became positioned close to its heels and as a consequence was unable to test his mount over the concluding stages. Post-race vet inspection did not show any significant findings - Race 178.
