Racing Incident Report

HOLE IN ONE jumped awkwardly with its head up and just after the start bumped by DE INTEGRO which shifted out. RECOGNITION left the gates very awkwardly. In the early stages HIGHLIGHT proved very difficult to settle and raced with its head in the air. About the 1200 Metres, PEACEFUL CENTURY got its head up and became unbalanced when being steadied off the heels of DE INTEGRO. About the 900 Metres, HIGHLIGHT which was continuing to race with its head in an awkward position became unbalanced when close to the heels of PROFIT ALL TIMES. About the 400 Metres, HOLY WINE was raced tight between PEACEFUL CENTURY and TOP PRACTITIONER. For a short distance in the early part of the Straight ENORMOUS WAY was held up for running. Approaching the 200 Metres, PEACEFUL CENTURY became unbalanced when crowded between the hindquarters of RECOGNITION and HOLY WINE (M Kinane) which shifted in slightly. After being crowded PEACEFUL CENTURY had to be shifted out to obtain running. After the 200 Metres HOLY WINE shifted in, causing some crowding to RECOGNITION and inconvenience to ENORMOUS WAY. M Kinane (HOLY WINE) was told that in future he would be expected to stop riding and straight. About the run on the winning post HIGHLIGHT was inconvenienced by EXPRESS LOT which shifted in. The Stewards allowed B K Ng, Trainer of HOLE IN ONE an opportunity to explain the horse's improved performance today when compared with its run at Sha Tin last Saturday. Mr Ng said that before the horse's run last week it had been working well and he considered on that occasion that it would run well. He said that in the early stages the horse was inclined to race with its head up, hung out, over the concluding stages weakened out of the race and he was very disappointed with the run. He said since then the horse has done little or no work, has been walked in the afternoons and done some trotting in the mornings. He said this week he had endeavoured to engage W M Lai again but he had prior commitments. He then endeavoured to seek the services of other senior riders without success, and eventually engaged Apprentice Y T Cheng. Mr Ng said today he instructed Apprentice Cheng to make sure the horse began well and with the light weight take it to a position up the front. Mr Ng said that he was of the view the improved performance today was due to the reduction in the distance of the race and also the fact that the horse was carrying considerably less weight today and in his opinion HOLE IN ONE raced well with some give in the ground. He also pointed out that last week was the first time HOLE IN ONE had run over 2000 Metres. It was decided that the explanation submitted by Mr Ng be accepted. PEACEFUL CENTURY was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
