Racing Incident Report

NIGHT STAR was slowly away. About the 300 Metres, J Egan (LITTLE PLAYTHING) dropped his whip. M Kinane (VICTORY MARBLE) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding. The careless riding being that in the run to the first turn he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DYNAMIC WINNINGS. As a consequence of this, DYNAMIC WINNINGS was carried across the running of IDEAL PARTNER which struck the heels of DYNAMIC WINNINGS and blundered. HONG KONG LEGEND, which was following, was checked in consequence. After taking into account all the evidence and the submissions made by M Kinane in relation to a penalty, the Stewards on this occasion decided that M Kinane should be suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 12 April 2001 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin meeting on Saturday, 31 March 2001. In addition, M Kinane was fined $30,000. When questioned, F Coetzee (EL VIENTO) said he had never been on the horse before and following the discussion he had with the Trainer yesterday, it was decided that he must try and ride EL VIENTO quietly. He said he does know the horse can be inclined to pull and be difficult to settle. He said today from an outside gate he let the horse leave the gates quietly to try and ensure it settled, but EL VIENTO did over-relax with him and got further back than was his intention. He said running to the first turn he was at the rear travelling fairly on the inside where the track was somewhat cut up and he elected to ride somewhat quietly in an endeavour to ensure the horse was properly balanced. He said in the early part of the Straight EL VIENTO was momentarily awkward behind WINNINGCOMBINATION, had a tendency to lay in, as a consequence it took him a little longer to get to the outside and into the clear running than he would have wished. F Coetzee acknowledged that in hindsight on this occasion he may have got back slightly too far in the early stages. He was told whilst the Stewards were accepting his explanations, his riding in the early stages did cause some concern. EL VIENTO was sent for clinical veterinary examination and routine testing.
