Racing Incident Report

SMART PRINCE was withdrawn on 16.5.02 on veterinary grounds (fever). A Marcus (KIMBERLEY MINES) and Y T Cheng (SMILING FOREST) were reprimanded for being late into the Parade Ring. After arriving at the Start, it was noted that SHINING CROWN was bleeding from a cut in its mouth. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. When the gates opened, GRAND FIGHTER bounded in the air and threw its head up. A Marcus said the horse can be somewhat tardy at the start and in the past had been inclined to over-race. He pointed out the stable had done a lot of work trying to educate KIMBERLEY MINES to settle in its races, therefore today at the start it was always his intention to ensure that KIMBERLEY MINES jumped well and was not put under pressure too soon after leaving the gates. He said KIMBERLEY MINES did come out a little slowly and was then inconvenienced somewhat by CORAJOSO which shifted out, this did cause KIMBERLEY MINES to get back further than he thought it would. He also went on to say KIMBERLEY MINES did not travel into the race as strongly as he thought it would and whilst on the face of it the run might be seen to be disappointing, he did point out KIMBERLEY MINES had gone up two classes and drawn a difficult gate. A Marcus did say in the middle stages KIMBERLEY MINES seemed to be reluctant to stretch out through the clods which were being kicked back and he himself was not able to see on the final turn and had to take his glasses off. KIMBERLEY MINES was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, it was noted that CLASSIC JESTER had lost its off side hind plate.
