Racing Incident Report

Approaching and rounding the Home Turn, MARSHALL SPIRIT hung out. S Dye (CARRY THE NEWS) explained the horse is difficult to ride work and is usually worked by one of the expatriate work riders. He said tonight he had hoped the horse would be accompanied to the Start by an outrider, however, this was not done. The horse was difficult to get to the Start, after being boxed was fractious and reared several times. He said CARRY THE NEWS left the gates with its head up, just after the start bumped with KONRAD THE GREAT, then continued to race ungenerously with its head up in the early stages which is not unusual. He said running towards the first turn CARRY THE NEWS was inclined to get its head up and on the side, was hanging in and was awkward behind CALIFORNIA KID. He said CARRY THE NEWS continued to hang in, about the 200 Metres was tightened by PACKING ANGEL which shifted to the inside of CALIFORNIA KID. He said despite all the problems before the race, he thought tonight CARRY THE NEWS was a little disappointing and did not finish the race off as it should have done. When questioned, Y T Cheng (PLEASANT SUCCESS) said from an outside gate he had been instructed by the trainer to steady the horse on leaving the gates, shift across behind other runners to take up a position at the rear. He said PLEASANT SUCCESS travelled reasonably in a rearward position, on straightening he wanted to shift out to go forward, but was unable to do so, then about the 300 Metres was checked when disappointed for running between QUICK NEWS and SHOW WIN, after this he shifted in across the heels of MARSHALL SPIRIT to find running and go forward, then towards the winning post when making some ground again had to change course to avoid MASTER YING. While the explanations submitted by Y T Cheng were accepted, however, he was told his ride at certain stages had come under notice.
