Racing Incident Report

GOOD RECORD missed the start. In the early stages, MAGIC HANDS, which was racing wide without any cover, pulled hard and threw its head about. About the 300 Metres, GREENMORE, which was making some ground, was steadied and shifted in to avoid MOMENTUM. M Cahill (REBEL LEADER) explained before the race the trainer had informed him the horse early in its career had a tendency to "switch off" in the middle stages and today he was to watch out for this. M Cahill did say however the trainer had told him the last couple of runs REBEL LEADER seemed to overcome this habit. He went on to say however in the middle stages when racing inside RAINBOW AND GOLD, REBEL LEADER dropped the bit and to get the horse travelling he had no alternative but to pull the whip. He said shortly afterwards the horse did start to stretch out again as he thought it should and he steadied as he thought the horse was going so well it may have reached the front a long way out which he was instructed not to do. He went on to say in the run to the line REBEL LEADER did not close off as he had hoped it would and he also said when he was travelling during the race he thought the horse may have been uncomfortable in the going as it dipped several times. REBEL LEADER was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing. After the race, the Veterinary Surgeon said RAINBOW AND GOLD was lame in its off side front leg. Before being allowed to race again, RAINBOW AND GOLD will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
