Racing Incident Report

TELECOM CHIEF was withdrawn on 12.4.02 on veterinary grounds (lame off fore) and replaced by Standby Declared Starter TRICCOLO (H K Yim). Before being allowed to race again, TELECOM CHIEF will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Approaching the 800 Metres, DANSWINNER was steadied when momentarily crowded by CAPE OF GOOD HOPE which shifted in away from LITIGADO. LITIGADO made the Home Turn awkwardly and was inclined to lay out, then over the concluding stages when weakening hung in. The Stewards overruled the protest/objection lodged by E Saint-Martin, the rider of KINDRED SPIRITS, which finished 3rd, against DR MORE (S Dye) being declared the winner. E Saint-Martin had alleged interference to his mount at the start. The Stewards considered whilst KINDRED SPIRITS was checked at the start, they formed the opinion that the check was as a result of KINDRED SPIRITS being crowded between GREENMORE which was taken out of a considerable distance by DANSWINNER which left the gates awkwardly and shifted out and DR MORE which was taken in by CAPE OF GOOD HOPE which was taken in slightly by TRIUMPHANT FEELING. The Stewards were satisfied therefore that the crowding caused to KINDRED SPIRITS at the start could not be attributed to DR MORE. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed.
