Racing Incident Report

PERFECT SHADOW and BONANZA were slowly away. PRIDE AND FORTUNE left the gates very awkwardly, then around the Home Turn and in the Straight was inclined to hang out. On leaving the gates, GOOD BROTHER and POWER LONG LEGS were momentarily crowded for room between CHINA WORLD which shifted in and FORTUNE MAPLE which shifted out. About 100 Metres out, MR PRESIDENT, which was making some ground, was steadied and changed course to avoid SPOT ON. In the run to the winning post, SPOT ON shifted out. Also in the run to the winning post, APPLIED SUPREME hung in. As a consequence of this, A Marcus stopped riding, straightened and did not ride to the line in his normal fashion. K S Yu (CHINA WORLD) explained he had not been on the horse since its run on Wednesday, before the race the trainer had told him there did not appear to be a lot of speed in the race and from his draw he was to go forward and lead if possible, but in the middle stages endeavour to steady CHINA WORLD. K S Yu said he was able to lead without making a lot use of the horse, but in the Straight when put under pressure, CHINA WORLD did not respond at all and dropped out. He did say he was of the view the horse may not have been backed up from Wednesday and also maybe it is better suited at this stage of its racing career to Happy Valley. CHINA WORLD was sent for clinical veterinary examination and testing.
