Racing Incident Report

Before being presented in the Parade Ring, THE GRAND ROOF had its right front plate refitted. GOLDEN CHOICE jumped awkwardly with its head up. Just after the start, STORM BARRIER was steadied when crowded by AFFAIRE D'AMOUR which after bumping with AMO shifted in. In the middle stages, STORM BARRIER hung out. AMO also made the first turn awkwardly with its head up and hung out away from STORM BARRIER. About the 300 Metres, QUICK NEWS was checked. It was established that QUICK NEWS was starting to give ground, shifted out and brushed the hindquarters of FELICITY (G Mossé) which also at the time shifted in. The check to QUICK NEWS, although it was weakening, was unsatisfactory, however, in view of all the circumstances, it was decided it would be inappropriate to take any direct action beyond reprimanding G Mossé and telling him he must do all he can to avoid similar incidents. C Williams (HOLY QUEST) explained he had watched the videos of the horse's previous runs and was aware it can be restless in the gates. He said today the horse was moving forward, he sought the help of an assistant to try and settle HOLY QUEST, but just as the gates opened, the horse was moving back in its stall, as a consequence missed the start. HOLY QUEST, FELICITY and ACE ACADEMY were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GOLDEN CHOICE was making an abnormal breathing noise. An endoscopic examination was carried out. He said this indicated the horse was a "roarer". He also said the condition of GOLDEN CHOICE will be monitored into the future. Before GOLDEN CHOICE can race again, it will be required to pass an official veterinary examination.
Additional Veterinary Report (released on 15/10/2002):
The Club's Senior Veterinary Officer, Dr Brian Stewart, has today advised GOLDEN CHOICE, which on Saturday was making a respiratory noise on pulling up, has a long standing wind problem (roaring). Dr Stewart said the condition of the horse presently is stable, but in his opinion is entirely unpredictable and will not be helped by rest or treatment.
He said GOLDEN CHOICE at the moment is therefore eligible to continue racing and its condition will be monitored.
