Racing Incident Report

KING'S PATROL left the gates very awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of ALLWIN COMBINATION. On leaving the gates, SHOW BRAVELY threw its head about, shifted ground and bumped ROYAL ARMY. From an outside draw, MARSHALL SPIRIT was momentarily steadied on leaving the gates and shifted across behind runners to take up a position closer to the rail but at the rear. Then near the 1000 Metres, MARSHALL SPIRIT got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ALLWIN COMBINATION and tight inside KING'S PATROL. From a difficult gate, HONOUR SUPREME was obliged to race wide without any cover. CASH KING also raced wide and was not able to find cover at any stage. For some distance near the 400 Metres, AMAZING was ridden hard to maintain its position inside LUCKY TIME which was giving ground. In the early part of the Straight, MARSHALL SPIRIT was steadied and shifted in to obtain running. M Cahill (ROYAL ARMY) said tonight was the third occasion he had ridden the horse this season. He said when he first rode ROYAL ARMY over 1600 Metres at Sha Tin, he was asked to ride the horse somewhere about midfield if possible. At the horse's next run again at Sha Tin over 1400 Metres, the instructions were similar, that was to have the horse somewhere about the middle. He said however ROYAL ARMY did not leave the gates as cleanly as he thought it would, got back to a rearward position and bearing in mind he had been directed by the trainer not to put the horse under full pressure until about 300 Metres out and do so on the outside, he was reluctant to improve in the middle stages. He said on that occasion ROYAL ARMY closed off well. Tonight the instructions were again to be about the middle or a little in front of that. He said before ROYAL ARMY was boxed, he gave the horse a liven up, it left the gates strongly, got well on the bit and took up a position much further forward than he expected it would. However, he did conclude by saying it was always the intention from a good draw and 1200 Metre start to be prominent this evening. The explanations submitted by M Cahill were accepted. ROYAL ARMY and HONOUR SUPREME were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported that THE ACHIEVER had lost its left hind plate.
