Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, TALK OF THE TOWN reared and lost ground. Shortly after the start, NATURAL ECHO was steadied when crowded for room between MAESTRO and SUN TZU which shifted out. Also shortly after the start, FLOWERS PRIDE and LUCKY BIRD were checked when crowded for room between PEARL AND GOLD and AMERICAN DEVIL, both of which shifted ground. Near the 1600 Metres, PEARL AND GOLD was brushed by SEA PEARL. For some distance after this, PEARL AND GOLD proved difficult to settle. Near the 800 Metres, SEA PEARL became unbalanced behind after shifting in and brushing HORSE AROUND. At the 600 Metres, NATURAL ECHO was disappointed for running between PEARL AND GOLD which shifted in slightly and LUCKY FRIENDS which shifted out to avoid the heels of SUN TZU which was commencing to give ground. BEST EVER, which was following, was steadied in consequence. After the 300 Metres, BEST EVER was severely checked and blundered when crowded for room between HORSE AROUND which shifted out and MAESTRO which shifted in away from LUCKY BIRD after initially having been taken in by that horse which shifted ground when hanging whilst being ridden out. In this incident, HORSE AROUND became badly unbalanced. In the opinion of the Stewards, there were a number of contributing circumstances to this incident and whilst it was one of some significance, they were of the opinion no one rider or riders could be held accountable for it, therefore no action was taken. In the Straight, PEARL AND GOLD hung in. BEST EVER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, BEST EVER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings, but he did note the horse had sustained a cut to the right fore leg. LUCKY BIRD and NATURAL ECHO were sent for sampling. After the race, PEARL AND GOLD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a significant amount of mucus in the trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PEARL AND GOLD will be required to pass an official veterinary examination. Following the race, HORSE AROUND returned making an abnormal breathing noise. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said an endoscopic examination showed a probable displacement of the soft palate and a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, HORSE AROUND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, the Veterianry Officer reported FLOWERS PRIDE (Apprentice K T Yeung) returned with weal marks on its right thigh. As Apprentice K T Yeung was taken to hospital following a fall in Race 6, the Stewards will speak to him regarding this matter at a date to be fixed.
