Racing Incident Report

Consideration was given to a complaint lodged by C Williams that he had been firmly engaged to ride DANDY BUNNY. Evidence was taken from C Williams, Mr S T Wong, trainer of DANDY BUNNY, and Mr T P Cheung, assistant trainer to Mr Wong. C Williams maintained he had sought and been granted the ride on DANDY BUNNY tonight through a phone call from Mr Cheung last Friday afternoon. He said at no time subsequent to this had he been advised he was not the engaged rider for DANDY BUNNY. Mr Wong said because DANDY BUNNY raced at Sha Tin last Sunday, he deferred making a decision on who was to ride the horse tonight until following that run. He said he personally gave no indication to C Williams that he was to ride DANDY BUNNY tonight and instead he engaged Apprentice M W Leung on Monday morning to ride the horse. Mr Cheung confirmed he had received a phone call from C Williams last Friday afternoon, however, he said he did not indicate to C Williams that he was to ride the horse at that time or during any further conversations. On the evidence, the Stewards were not able to satisfy themselves C Williams had been firmly engaged to ride DANDY BUNNY in this race and in the circumstances the matter was not proceeded with, however, Mr Wong was advised to ensure he established a clear procedure for the engaging of jockeys to ride horses trained by him. DANDY BUNNY was slow to begin. From the outside barrier, FORTUNE LIFE was immediately steadied and taken across behind runners to a position on the rail. In the early stages, C'EST LA VIE proved difficult to settle. Near the 900 Metres, LUCKY SUPERSTAR started to over-race and shifted out after becoming awkward on the heels of MY HEART. After the 600 Metres, C'EST LA VIE lost its position when crowded for room between LUCKY SUPERSTAR which shifted in slightly and CHOICE AND CHANCE which brushed the running rail, became unbalanced and shifted out. The occurrence was accidental. On the latter part of the Home Turn, FORTUNE LIFE was held up behind INDUSTRIAL PRIDE and inside DANDY BUNNY and then after the 200 Metres when endeavouring to find clear running between MY HEART and LUCKY SUPERSTAR was momentarily steadied away from the heels of LUCKY SUPERSTAR. After the 400 Metres, KOH-I-NOOR was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of C'EST LA VIE. In the Straight, C'EST LA VIE hung in and proved difficult to ride. PACKING ANGEL and MENDOZA were sent for sampling.
