Racing Incident Report

On jumping, ANABATIK shifted out and bumped CENTURY STAR. ANABATIK then shifted in and bumped PRIME WITNESS. When ANABATIK and PRIME WITNESS bumped, the two horses' heads made contact. PEPPERONI and TRIPLE EXPRESSO were slow to begin. D Dunn (PRIME WITNESS) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that at about the 1000 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SMART WINNER, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In the circumstances of this case, it was decided the appropriate penalty was for D Dunn's licence to ride in races be suspended until Sunday 16 March 2003 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of this suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley meeting next Wednesday 26 February 2003. For some distance near the 300 Metres, MERIDIAN STAR was held up and unable to obtain clear running to the inside of THANK HEAVENS and outside CHARMING CITY which was shifting out. Also near the 300 Metres, CENTURY STAR was steadied and shifted in after being disappointed for running between CLIFFHANGER and ANABATIK. When questioned, R Fradd (HAPPY MOMENTUM) said on straightening, a clear run presented itself to him on the inside of CENTURY STAR, however, when he considered taking this run, he was aware VICTORY WARRIOR and PRIME WITNESS were on the rail albeit some distance in front of him, they appeared to be under pressure and he was concerned the clear run may not present itself. He said because of this he elected to come out and follow CENTURY STAR in the hope that that horse would obtain clear running. He said near the 200 Metres, he shifted further to the outside of CENTURY STAR and it was only at this stage that he obtained a clear run and was able to put his mount under full pressure. R Fradd conceded after having viewed the video if he had improved to the inside of CENTURY STAR initially, he would have been able to secure clear running close to the rail, however, he made this concession only with the benefit of hindsight. R Fradd was advised his riding in the early part of the Straight had come under notice and in future he should ride in a manner which leaves no room for query. CENTURY STAR and ANABATIK were sent for sampling.
