Racing Incident Report

After leaving the Parade Ring but before entering the track, H K Yim was dislodged from LUCKY SUPERSTAR. FOREVER WIN began awkwardly and got its head up. LUCKY SUPERSTAR began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped KING OF FISH. GRANDIOSO was slow to begin. D Whyte (ENGINEERING WONDER) said the horse, which was racing over a further distance of 1400 Metres today, began well and immediately travelled in a forward position. He said he anticipated KING OF FISH would hold the rail to his inside, however, when this did not happen, he allowed ENGINEERING WONDER to go forward, shift in and follow LUCKY OWNERS. He said ENGINEERING WONDER travelled comfortably in this position, however, when placed under pressure near the 200 Metres failed to respond and gave ground over the concluding stages. W C Marwing (TRIUMPHANT GLORY) said he had been instructed from the outside barrier to go forward and put the horse in a prominent position. He said in accordance with those instructions, he rode his mount along in the early stages, had to make some use of it to go forward of NEVER SAY NEVER before the 800 Metres, however, he was then obliged to race three wide and without cover outside the leaders. He said as a result of the difficult run TRIUMPHANT GLORY had, it failed to respond to his riding in the Straight. F Coetzee (LUCKY OWNERS) said he was instructed to lead, however, if the pace was going to be strong, he should take a position behind the lead. He said LUCKY OWNERS began well and immediately travelled in the leading position, at the 1000 Metres GRAND FIGHTER had raced to his outside, however, it did not continue forward and sat off him. He said because of this LUCKY OWNERS did not relax at any stage and he was concerned as far out as the 800 Metres. He said he had also formed the opinion the track appeared to be suiting horses racing away from the rail, however, from barrier 1 and the manner in which the race was run, it was not possible for him to shift away from the rail. He said in the Straight LUCKY OWNERS hung out, however, this was not unusual. G Mossé (SAGACIOUS) said the horse had previously performed well when ridden by him in a rearward position, however, recently when travelling further forward had failed to finish its races off, because of this he was instructed to ride SAGACIOUS quietly in an endeavour to ensure it finished today's race off. He said in accordance with those instructions, he immediately allowed SAGACIOUS to drop back to race near the rear, it relaxed well for him and on straightening when shifted to the outside closed the race off strongly. The explanations submitted by G Mossé were accepted. S K Sit (KING OF FISH) said he had been riding the horse in its recent work and this work in his opinion had been similar to that prior to the horse's most recent start when finishing second. He said today from a barrier towards the inside KING OF FISH was obliged to race on the rail, however, appeared to resent having horses to its outside, did not travel at any stage and when under pressure in the Straight gave ground. He said in his opinion KING OF FISH is better suited when it is able to see "daylight". KING OF FISH was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, KING OF FISH was examined by the Veterinary Officer. No significant findings were made. SUNBELL and LUCKY OWNERS were sent for sampling.
