Racing Incident Report

Just prior to the start being effected, CHAMP DE UNION lunged forward and broke open the gates of its stall. Then as the remainder of the gates opened, the outside gate of the stall of STRONGHEART, which had drawn inside CHAMP DE UNION, did not fully open, however, this did not affect the horse's start. WYNDAM EASY was a little slow to begin. THE ACHIEVER began awkwardly. In the early stages, KIMBERLEY MINES, which was ridden to a rearward position, got its head up. Approaching the 400 Metres, CHAMP DE UNION was awkwardly placed outside AMO and tight inside the heels of HAPPY PARTNERS. Shortly after straightening, STRONGHEART was bumped and carried wider by COUNTRY MUSIC which was shifting to the outside of WYNDAM EASY to obtain clear running. In the Straight, SENSIBLE WAY got its head up and hung in. Throughout the race, HAPPY PARTNERS raced wide and without cover, then in the Straight gave ground. S Dye explained after the 200 Metres he was concerned with the action of HAPPY PARTNERS and therefore he eased it down. HAPPY PARTNERS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, HAPPY PARTNERS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. Before being permitted to race again, HAPPY PARTNERS must perform competitively in an official barrier trial and will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. THE ACHIEVER and JOLLY GAINS were sent for sampling. After the race, W C Marwing said SENSIBLE WAY did not appear to be striding out freely. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said at this time he was not able to detect any significant findings.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 18 December 2003)
HAPPY PARTNERS, which was eased down after the 200 Metres, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. HAPPY PARTNERS was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer J Size this morning and at this time was found to be lame in the right front leg. As previously advised, HAPPY PARTNERS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
