Racing Incident Report

FAMOUS BRAND was slow to begin, then was steadied away from the heels of PROFIT DAY which on jumping shifted in abruptly. LIGHTING THE WORLD began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of PEACH BLOSSOM which also began awkwardly. As a result of being bumped, PEACH BLOSSOM became unbalanced. HORSE AROUND began awkwardly, causing O Doleuze, its rider, to become unbalanced. ASIA STAR, which had drawn the outside gate, got its head up when being immediately steadied to shift across behind runners close to the fence but with the rear. Shortly after the start, LIGHTING THE WORLD clipped the heels of PEACH BLOSSOM and knuckled as a result of being carried in by AMITY which shifted ground after being bumped on the hindquarters by CHEVAL D'OR which in turn had made contact with BABY KING. After this incident CHEVAL D'OR, which then got its head on the side, was inclined to shift in and was steadied away from the heels of AMITY which shifted out. Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, LIGHTING THE WORLD bumped the running rail when racing tight inside CHEVAL D'OR. Also making the turn near the 1000 Metres, HORSE AROUND was awkwardly placed inside PEACH BLOSSOM which in turn was racing tight inside AMITY which when being steadied to avoid the heels of BACK SEAT DRIVER (W Smith) which shifted in when not clear then got its head on the side and shifted across the heels of that horse. W Smith was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to ensure he was properly clear before shifting ground. Near the 800 Metres, MUNDAHISH became unbalanced when being steadied away from the heels of BACK SEAT DRIVER which after reaching the lead steadied in front. Some inconvenience was caused to PEACH BLOSSOM which was racing behind and to the outside of MUNDAHISH. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, SUPERSONIC was bumped by PEACH BLOSSOM which shifted out. At the same time, LIGHTING THE WORLD was tightened for room inside BABY KING which got its head on the side and shifted in slightly. Making the Home Turn, LIGHTING THE WORLD was held up and unable to improve when racing behind PEACH BLOSSOM. In the Straight, LIGHTING THE WORLD was inclined to lay in. After the 100 Metres, ASIA STAR was shifted to the outside of LIGHTING THE WORLD to continue going forward. O Doleuze (HORSE AROUND) was fined $2,000 for making a celebratory gesture prior to the winning post. When questioned regarding the poor performance of PEACH BLOSSOM, A Delpech said the horse at its last start had been able to lead without being pressured at Sha Tin. He said tonight because of the tempo of the race he had to make use of the horse to obtain a forward position and the horse did not travel comfortably at any stage. He said he had noted when previously racing at Happy Valley it had also performed poorly. The explanation submitted by A Delpech was accepted. PEACH BLOSSOM was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, PEACH BLOSSOM was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings, however, he noted the horse had lost its left front plate. AMITY was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of AMITY after the race did not show any significant findings. HORSE AROUND and BACK SEAT DRIVER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 18 March 2004)
PEACH BLOSSOM, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant finding, however, he noted the horse had lost its left front plate. PEACH BLOSSOM was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer A T Millard this morning. He said at this time the horse was noted to have "jarred up" in the right front fetlock. Before being allowed to race again, PEACH BLOSSOM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
