Racing Incident Report

CONJURING was withdrawn on 8.3.04 on veterinary grounds (left fore suspensory ligament injury) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter PAOBRIDGE. Before being permitted to race again, CONJURING will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. CELESTIAL STEEL was slow to begin. On jumping, ONE STEP AHEAD put its head down and began awkwardly. At the 800 Metres, NOBLE SILENCE, which had been shifting in with WINNING COUNTER, straightened and at this time ONE STEP AHEAD, which also had been shifting in, got on the back of NOBLE SILENCE and dragged that horse down. After this, NOBLE SILENCE was eased out of the race. In the circumstances, no action was taken. When NOBLE SILENCE broke down, WINNING RONGRONG, which was following, was hampered in consequence. After the race, NOBLE SILENCE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse had sustained a laceration to the left hind hock. Before being allowed to race again, NOBLE SILENCE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On straightening, ONE MORE ROUND and ONE STEP AHEAD bumped. In the Straight, SOLID CONTACT hung in and proved difficult to ride. F Coetzee (NOBLE HERO) explained it had been his intention to have the horse ridden behind the leaders if possible. He said tonight NOBLE HERO began well, then despite his riding in the early stages failed to show its usual pace and got further back than was intended. He said NOBLE HERO in the past had hung out, however, tonight in the middle stages hung in and then raced at times in restricted room inside WINNING COUNTER. He said this prevented him from improving his position at this stage of the race. He said prior to straightening NOBLE HERO became unbalanced after making contact with the running rail when tight inside WINNING COUNTER, then in the Straight closed the race off strongly. The explanation of F Coetzee was accepted. WYNDAM EASY and VICTORY WARRIOR were sent for sampling.
