Racing Incident Report

JUST TOO GOOD and SUNNY WIN were slow to begin. MONEY EXPRESS began awkwardly. On jumping, NOBLE GLORY was bumped by LA MERVEILLE which shifted in abruptly. Shortly after the start, SUNNY WIN shifted in and bumped JUST TOO GOOD. ALLEGRO, which was to be ridden in a forward position today, was slow to begin and then was hard ridden to improve its position behind SUPER BEST. At the 1400 Metres, GOOD BOY was momentarily steadied away from the heels of WATCHMAN which shifted out after initially shifting in and causing some pressure to JUST TOO GOOD on its inside. Near the 900 Metres, TELECOM BABE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WATCHMAN. JUST TOO GOOD, which was following TELECOM BABE, was steadied and shifted in away from the heels of that runner. Shortly after this, near the 800 Metres JUST TOO GOOD was not able to maintain its position when crowded for room between ALLEGRO and TELECOM BABE, both of which shifted ground. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, SUPER BEST hung out. After the 600 Metres, ALLEGRO was momentarily steadied away from the heels of SUPRA SMART KID. Near the 300 Metres, GOOD BOY dipped. Also near the 300 Metres, TELECOM BABE was momentarily steadied when awkward outside the heels of SOARING ANGEL. A Delpech (LA MERVEILLE) said he had been instructed to ride the horse in a "handy" position. He said LA MERVEILLE began well, he allowed it in the initial stages to stride forward, however, WATCHMAN went forward with him on his inside. He said near the 1300 Metres he became concerned he would be obliged to race wide and without cover and at the same time he considered he would have to make too much use of LA MERVEILLE to go forward and cross runners to his inside to obtain a position close to the fence, he therefore elected to steady his mount in the hope that he would be able to obtain a position behind WATCHMAN. He said as he did this GOOD BOY improved its position on his inside to race behind WATCHMAN which therefore meant he was obliged to continue racing wide and without cover. A Delpech did say with the benefit of hindsight it may have been preferable for him to have been more committed to going forward in the early stages. TELECOM BABE, JUST TOO GOOD and SUPER BEST were sent for sampling.
