Racing Incident Report

SIROCCO was a little slow to begin, then on jumping shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of MY CHIEF. ASALI was slow to begin. OUR CLASS began awkwardly, shifted out and caused inconvenience to FORTUNE SMILES which on jumping stumbled. Near the 1300 Metres, SIROCCO shifted in and made contact with the running rail. Shortly after this, SIROCCO, MAGIC MAIL and BYRON were crowded for room and steadied inside KING OF FISH (S K Sit) which shifted in when not properly clear. S K Sit was advised to exercise more care. In the early stages, ASALI proved difficult to settle. For some distance after the 900 Metres, MY CHIEF and SPARKLING STAR raced tight. At the 800 Metres, MY CHIEF was steadied away from the heels of JOYFUL SPIRIT. For some distance after the 800 Metres, LUCKY LAD raced tight inside KING OF FISH, then near the 600 Metres was steadied when momentarily crowded between OUR CLASS and KING OF FISH which momentarily got its head on the side and shifted in. Shortly after straightening, KING OF FISH and LUCKY LAD came together. Near the 100 Metres, MY CHIEF, which was held up and unable to obtain clear running, was steadied and shifted to the inside of KING OF FISH. Also near the 100 Metres, MAGIC HANDS was steadied and shifted to the outside of OUR CLASS. In the run to the line, MY CHIEF got its head on the side, was inclined to lay out and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KING OF FISH and because of this was not ridden out as it normally would be. D Whyte (BYRON) reported after passing the 600 Metres the horse made a significant abnormal breathing noise, then after this did not respond to his riding and in the Straight as he was concerned he eased the horse down. BYRON was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. After the race, BYRON was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant abnormalities. Before being allowed to race again, BYRON will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. MAGIC MAIL was sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. A veterinary examination of MAGIC MAIL after the race did not show any significant findings. ASALI and FORTUNE SMILES were sent for sampling.
