Racing Incident Report

ABLE CHOICE, GREAT DELIGHT and SAMBUCA began awkwardly. FERRULE was slow to begin, then shifted out and bumped MEDIC CORPS which when the gates opened bounded in the air. Near the 1000 Metres, KEY TO SUCCESS was momentarily steadied away from the heels of SAMBUCA which shifted in when only just clear. At the 700 Metres, VROOM VROOM was bumped by FANTASY which was shifting in. As a result of this, FANTASY then shifted out and caused inconvenience to ABLE CHOICE which was checked. Also at the 700 Metres, BOBO WIN became unbalanced after bumping the running rail. In the early part of the Straight on several occasions, GREAT DELIGHT was bumped by ABLE CHOICE which was endeavouring to improve outside HELENE MOMENTUM which itself was shifting out. The performance of VROOM VROOM was considered unacceptable. Before being permitted to race again, VROOM VROOM will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. W C Marwing (GOLCONDA) said he had been instructed if the horse began well, he should allow it to go forward and lead. He said when the gates opened GOLCONDA began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall, he then rode along for a short distance, but it quickly became apparent to him that the horse would not muster sufficient speed to travel in a forward position. He said he therefore elected to allow GOLCONDA to travel where it was comfortable which was behind midfield. He said after taking up this position GOLCONDA did not travel properly into the bridle, after the 800 Metres he commenced to ride the horse along, it then started to lay in. He said in the Straight GOLCONDA responded to his riding, however, it continued to lay in and its run finished well short of the line. S Dye (PALETTE NATURAL) said recently the horse had not been finishing off as hoped, therefore it was decided today in what was anticipated to be a quickly run race to ride the horse a little further back. He said also contributing to this decision was that PALETTE NATURAL was carrying 133 lbs. MEDIC CORPS was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of MEDIC CORPS after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of MEDIC CORPS was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, MEDIC CORPS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SAMBUCA, SPECIAL KING PRAWN and KEY TO SUCCESS were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 26 April 2004)
MEDIC CORPS, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. Following its return to its stable after racing yesterday, MEDIC CORPS was found to be distressed, possibly showing signs of colic. The horse was treated by the Veterinary Surgeon and appeared normal this morning. As previously advised, MEDIC CORPS will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination before racing again.
