Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, COME SEE YOU stood flat-footed and lost a considerable amount of ground. In the early stages, SUMMERLAND proved difficult to settle. Near the winning post on the first occasion, HELENE VITALITY, which had been proving difficult to settle, got its head up and shifted out abruptly. After this, HELENE VITALITY raced wide and without cover for the remainder of the race. Near the 1200 Metres, BULL'S EYE, which for some distance had been racing tight inside ELEGANT FASHION, was steadied away from the heels of that horse when it shifted in when only just clear. For some distance after this, BULL'S EYE got its head on the side and raced awkwardly. Near the 300 Metres, CARACOLER, which was giving ground, was bumped by INDUSTRIAL SUCCESS which improved through a narrow run on its inside. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of B Prebble (AIN'T HERE) over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he was nevertheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out right to the winning post at least hands and heels whenever possible. R Fradd (BULLISH LUCK) said he rode the horse with the rear as expected. He said after the 500 Metres he attempted to improve his position, however, BULLISH LUCK did not respond as he had hoped, failed to close the race off and over the concluding stages hung in. He said in his opinion BULLISH LUCK raced like a "tired" horse. BULLISH LUCK and SUMMERLAND were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of BULLISH LUCK after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, SUMMERLAND was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SUMMERLAND will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ELEGANT FASHION, SUPER KID and RIVER DANCER were sent for sampling. After the race, it was noted AIN'T HERE had lost its left hind plate.
