Racing Incident Report

PAY-DAY began awkwardly and lost ground. On jumping, HENNESSY DAYS got its head up. After the 900 Metres, COULDN'T CARE LESS became unbalanced when momentarily crowded for room between PAY-DAY and LUCKY CORDELIA. Near the 800 Metres, LUCKY CORDELIA, which at this time was hanging out, blundered when awkwardly placed close to the heels of MAJESTIC DANCER. Making the turn after the 700 Metres, MAJESTIC DANCER hung out. In the middle stages, ROYAL VICTORY hung out. In the middle stages and in the Straight, PAY-DAY hung in. For some distance after the 200 Metres, LUCKY CORDELIA was steadied when unable to improve behind JET RISE and inside PAY-DAY which was hanging in. Near the 100 Metres, when being shifted towards the outside of PAY-DAY to obtain clear running, LUCKY CORDELIA got its head on the side, commenced to hang out and bumped HENNESSY DAYS. Throughout the race, MANGROVE raced greenly, making the turn at the 800 Metres hung out, then in the Straight gave ground. T Mundry (DATKIM) said on jumping his right foot struck the inside gate of the barrier as a result of the horse beginning awkwardly. He said this caused him some discomfort in the early stages and he therefore took some time to get the horse balanced. He said he had been instructed to if possible provide the horse with cover, he therefore elected to steady and shift across behind runners to a position closer to the rail, however, he was further back than had been intended. He said approaching the 800 Metres whist he was some way off the horses in front of him, he elected to allow DATKIM to travel rather than to ride it along as he said his primary concern was to keep the horse well balanced and in his opinion to have improved at that time would have required him to go wide outside COULDN'T CARE LESS. He said in the Straight DATKIM closed the race off nicely. MANGROVE was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of MANGROVE after the race did not show any significant findings. TIGER RIDGE and BULB KING were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 7 June 2004)
MANGROVE, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. MANGROVE was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer D Cruz this morning. He said at this time the horse was noted to have a fever. Before being allowed to race again, MANGROVE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
