Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, MR COOL bounded in the air. COUNTRY BOY began awkwardly and bumped the inside gate of its stall, then shortly afterwards was bumped by OCELOT which shifted in. DASHING WINNER was slow to begin, then when being restrained in the early stages got its head up, commenced to hang out and because of this was allowed to stride forward. DASHING WINNER continued to hang out badly for the remainder of the race and finished wide on the course. DASHING WINNER was sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of DASHING WINNER after the race did not show any significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, DASHING WINNER will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial around a bend. Near the 1600 Metres, KINGFIELD and SHANGHAI KING were crowded for room inside ROYAL ARMY which had its head on the side and shifted in away from CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE. After the 1200 Metres, MOMENTUM, which was proving difficult to settle, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of KA KA WIN. Near the 200 Metres, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE was checked when disappointed for running between ROYAL ARMY which was shifting in slightly and OCELOT which shifted out. When CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE checked, DANAMITE, which was following, was steadied and shifted in to avoid the heels of that horse. After the 100 Metres, OCELOT, which was commencing to give ground, was steadied when crowded for room between HAPPY PARTNERS and ROYAL ARMY (T Mundry) which while hanging in was being ridden along at this time and shifted ground when not clear. T Mundry was severely reprimanded and told in similar circumstances he would be expected to make a greater effort than he did on this occasion to keep his horse straight. F Coetzee (COUNTRY BOY) explained after the 200 Metres the horse became unbalanced in its action. Because of this, he did not ride it out to the end of the race as he normally would. COUNTRY BOY were sent for a clinical veterinary examination. A veterinary examination of COUNTRY BOY after the race did not show any significant findings. A Marcus (KINGFIELD) said he had been instructed to ride the horse patiently and ensure he had clear running in the Home Straight. He said KINGFIELD began only fairly and because of the quick tempo of the race in the early stages got a little further back than he had anticipated. He said the horse enjoyed a reasonable run, but did not really feel comfortable at any stage. He said in the Straight KINGFIELD did not respond to his riding and he was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. KINGFIELD and MR COOL were sent for a clinical veterinary examination and sampling. After the race, KINGFIELD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said there were no significant findings, however, he did note the horse had lost its right front plate. A veterinary examination of MR COOL after the race did not show any significant findings. GOOD HEART and LUCKY SIXER were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 14 June 2004)
MR COOL, which performed poorly, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. MR COOL was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer L Ho yesterday morning. He said at this time the horse was found to be slightly lame in the right front leg. Before being allowed to race again, MR COOL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
