Racing Incident Report

SEASONS KNACK began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. Near the 1300 Metres, SMART HORSE was steadied when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HARVEY MUDD which shifted in momentarily. Apprentice C K Tong (CHAMP DRAGON) said he had been instructed to lead on the horse as is usual. He said after beginning well he went forward to ensure he cleared runners to his inside, however, then after the 1400 Metres when he endeavoured to steady the tempo, CHAMP DRAGON did not respond and went quicker than he had intended. He said he was aware he opened up a large leading margin on the remainder of the field, however, because of the manner in which CHAMP DRAGON was travelling, he was unable to avoid this. Mr C Fownes, the trainer of CHAMP DRAGON and allocated trainer of Apprentice Tong, confirmed the instructions issued. He said after viewing the film in his opinion CHAMP DRAGON travelled too keenly for the rider and as a consequence went quicker than he had hoped. Apprentice Tong was told whilst the Stewards like to see truly run races, on this occasion in their opinion he should have made a greater effort to steady his mount than he did. CHAMP DRAGON was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of CHAMP DRAGON after the race did not show any significant findings. HARVEY MUDD, GREEN TREASURE and SUPER IDEAL were sent for sampling.
