Racing Incident Report
SATURN, which was to be ridden more quietly today, began awkwardly and got its head up. When being steadied after crossing to lead after the 1200 Metres, SPECIAL KING PRAWN got its head up and proved difficult to settle for a considerable distance. After the 800 Metres, SATURN again got its head up when awkwardly placed inside the heels of PERFECT PARTNER. At the 600 Metres, BULL'S EYE was steadied away from the heels of TOWN OF FIONN. After the 600 Metres, SATURN was steadied when close to the heels of PALETTE NATURAL. Near the 100 Metres, HIDDEN DRAGON got its head on the side and shifted out. P Payne (PERFECT PARTNER) said prior to the 600 Metres MERIDIAN STAR improved around his outside, he therefore remained following BULL'S EYE. He said coming around the Home Turn he was aware to get to the outside of MERIDIAN STAR he would have had to steady his mount, he therefore decided to position himself to the inside of BULL'S EYE and outside WINTROW in the hope that a run would eventuate between those two horses which would enable him to follow TOWN OF FIONN which he considered the best horse to take him into clear running. He said on straightening it appeared as though this run was going to eventuate, however, shortly afterwards A Delpech, the rider of WINTROW, turned that horse's head out and as a consequence it shifted out. He said he therefore immediately shifted to the inside of WINTROW in the hope that that horse would continue outwards and provide him with clear running to his inside. He said as soon as he did this WINTROW was then straightened to come to the inside of the heels of SUPER BROSE which drifted out at this time. He said as a consequence of this he was inside the heels of WINTROW and held up for clear running for a considerable distance inside that horse and outside GRAND DELIGHT which was hanging out when giving ground. He said he was not able to obtain clear running until after the 200 Metres when he was able to shift to the outside of WINTROW. The explanation submitted by P Payne was accepted. PERFECT PARTNER, SPECIAL KING PRAWN and SUPER BROSE were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, PERFECT PARTNER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, PERFECT PARTNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of SPECIAL KING PRAWN and SUPER BROSE after the race did not show any significant findings. TOWN OF FIONN and MERIDIAN STAR were sent for sampling. The Veterinary Officer reported that immediately after the race TOWN OF FIONN was lame in the right front leg, however, shortly afterwards the horse was free in its action.
