Racing Incident Report

SUPER IDEAL began awkwardly, got its head up and lost ground. Making the Home Turn, ENTERTAINING was carried wider by FIRST AMONG EQUALS. On straightening, STRONG SUN was carried wider by KINGFIELD which shifted to the outside of GREEN TREASURE which was giving ground. Approaching the 300 Metres, DASHING THUNDER was held up and unable to obtain clear running between MR COOL and DR WELL. After the 300 Metres, MR COOL, which was giving ground, became unbalanced when bumped by DASHING THUNDER which improved into a narrow run on the outside of that horse and inside DR WELL. For some distance after the 300 Metres, INSIDE MAIL was awkwardly placed and unable to improve between GALLANT FALCON and WIND WINNER. Near the 200 Metres, B Doyle (GIANFANTI) dropped his whip. Over the concluding stages, KINGFIELD was unable to obtain clear running when racing behind STRONG SUN and because of this was not ridden out to the line as it normally would be. Near the 50 Metres, INSIDE MAIL was hit under the jaw by the whip of A Marcus (SUPER IDEAL). W Woods (FIRST AMONG EQUALS) said the intention had been to ride the horse where it was comfortable in the run. He said the horse previously had shown that it becomes unbalanced and does not appreciate being ridden along to take up a forward position. He said FIRST AMONG EQUALS began awkwardly, he then allowed the horse to travel without riding it along, it did not muster speed and consequently got back to race near the rear. He said near the 1200 Meters he was awkwardly placed inside STRONG SUN for a short distance and he allowed that horse to go forward of him. He said after remaining at the rear prior to straightening, he shifted his mount out to ensure he had clear running on the outside of runners and the horse closed the race off strongly over the concluding stages. GREEN TREASURE was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. After the race, GREEN TREASURE was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was showing signs of an irregular heart rhythm. Before being allowed to race again, GREEN TREASURE will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. GIANFANTI was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of GIANFANTI after the race did not show any significant findings. WIND WINNER and DASHING THUNDER were sent for sampling. An inquiry into the reason for GREEN TREASURE being checked near the 300 Metres was adjourned to a date to be fixed.
