Racing Incident Report

G Mossé (LUCKY DRAGON) was fined $3,000 for changing boots after he had weighed out. LUCKY PACKET and SOLAR were slow to begin. In the early and middle stages, GOLD STRIKER proved very difficult to settle and near the 1300 Metres became unbalanced, shifted in and bumped DON FELIPE, then shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of CHING HOI BOY, shifted back in and again bumped DON FELIPE. Near the 1200 Metres, WIN FOR ALL, which was proving difficult to settle, got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FIRST ON which shifted in when only just clear. After this, WIN FOR ALL continued to prove very difficult to settle when close to the heels of FIRST ON, shifted in and caused crowding on its inside to DRAGON STRIDE which as a result became unbalanced and lost its running. Whilst the incident was one of some significance, the Stewards believed there were circumstances involved and that they should not take any action. After the 1200 Metres, GOLD STRIKER was crowded for room inside CHING HOI BOY which shifted in slightly away from UNIVERSAL PIONEER which itself shifted in when only just clear. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, DON FELIPE was bumped by GOLD STRIKER which at this time became unbalanced after being bumped by CHING HOI BOY. Also making the turn at the 800 Metres and again at the 500 Metres, FIRST ON became unbalanced. Approaching and passing the 600 Metres, WIN FOR ALL lost ground when racing behind FIRST ON which itself was giving ground. After the 500 Metres, WIN FOR ALL was steadied and shifted out to avoid the heels of FIRST ON which continued to give ground. Over the concluding stages when giving ground, CHING HOI BOY hung in, proved difficult to ride and at the 50 Metres caused some inconvenience to DRAGON STRIDE. Apprentice C W Wong (UNIVERSAL PIONEER), 6th placegetter, was told whilst the Stewards were satisfied his riding over the concluding stages did not affect the horse's finishing position, he should at all times ride his mounts out right to the winning post wherever possible at least hands and heels. A Starke (CHING HOI BOY) explained he had been told the horse was somewhat one paced and therefore he should endeavour to make sure the horse began well and if possible obtained a position forward of midfield. He said after beginning well he rode his mount to go forward and he obtained a nice position, however, approaching the first turn the horses on his inside shifted out which resulted in him being carried wider on the track. He said he therefore decided to continue going forward which resulted in him racing three wide without cover outside the lead. Mr T W Leung, trainer of CHING HOI BOY, confirmed the riding instructions issued to A Starke. He said since the horse last raced which was the first for him as trainer, he had freshened the horse and felt that it might be better suited ridden more prominently than it had been. He said unfortunately the way the race was run today CHING HOI BOY was not able to be ridden with cover and in the future he feels the horse would be better suited if able to obtain cover. DRAGON STRIDE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DRAGON STRIDE after the race did not show any significant findings. LUCKY DRAGON and WIN FOR ALL were sent for sampling.
