Racing Incident Report

BULLISH LUCK was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was crowded for room between ELEGANT FASHION which shifted in and AIN'T HERE which was carried out by DANCE IN THE MOOD. POWERSCOURT was slow to begin. At the 1600 Metres, BOWMAN'S CROSSING was crowded for room inside TOUCH OF LAND which was racing tight inside LATICE. After the 1400 Metres, LATICE, which was racing tight outside TOUCH OF LAND, was steadied away from the heels of ALEXANDER GOLDRUN. In the middle stages, DANCE IN THE MOOD raced wide and without cover. Before the 200 Metres, BOWMAN'S CROSSING got its head up when being shifted to the inside of DANCE IN THE MOOD into clear running. In the Straight, AIN'T HERE was held up for clear running until near the 200 Metres. B Prebble (AIN'T HERE) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 200 Metres he shifted his mount to the inside of ELEGANT FASHION when not clear of DANCE IN THE MOOD, causing that horse to be carried in across the rightful running of BOWMAN'S CROSSING which as a result was checked. B Prebble was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 23 December 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 15 December 2004 on which day he may resume race riding. In addition, B Prebble was fined $60,000 in lieu of a suspension incorporating two further racedays. When BOWMAN'S CROSSING was checked after the 200 Metres, it made contact with the hindquarters of SOLDIER HOLLOW which as a result became unbalanced. In the Straight, FIELDS OF OMAGH hung in. Prior to weighed-in being semaphored, J Spencer, the rider of POWERSCOURT, 4th placegetter, lodged a protest/objection against BULLISH LUCK (F Coetzee) being declared the 2nd placegetter alleging interference inside the final 200 Metres. During the course of the formal protest/objection hearing, J Spencer submitted his mount had lost its running and been checked near the 100 Metres, however, he was of the opinion after looking at the films that he would not have finished in front of BULLISH LUCK had the interference to POWERSCOURT which did take place not occurred. He therefore sought leave of the Stewards to withdraw the protest/objection he had lodged. Acting under the powers conferred to them by Rule 124, the Stewards acceded to the request of J Spencer and granted him leave to withdraw the protest/objection. Accordingly the Judge's placings as semaphored were confirmed. At a subsequent inquiry, F Coetzee pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of POWERSCOURT, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. F Coetzee was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 23 December 2004 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting next Wednesday 15 December 2004 on which day he may resume race riding. In addition, F Coetzee was fined $80,000 in lieu of a suspension incorporating two further racedays. Over the concluding stages, TOUCH OF LAND raced tight inside BULLISH LUCK which was drifting in. P Robinson (RAKTI) explained the horse began awkwardly and then because of the slow tempo of the race proved very difficult to settle, on a number of occasions raced close to the heels of LATICE, got its head up and near the 1400 Metres when being steadied away from the heels of LATICE became unbalanced and blundered. BOWMAN'S CROSSING was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of BOWMAN'S CROSSING after the race did not show any significant findings. RAKTI, ALEXANDER GOLDRUN, BULLISH LUCK and TOUCH OF LAND were sent for sampling.
