Racing Incident Report

When the gates opened, NEW MILESTONE bounded in the air and lost ground. ABLE EAGLE began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped MANIFEST. GOOD TRIO was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of TROPHY which shifted in. For some distance near the 1000 Metres, WISHMASTER raced tight inside NEW MILESTONE. On entering the Back Straight, WISHMASTER got its head up, shifted out and was steadied away from the heels of NEW MILESTONE. Making the Home Turn, WISHMASTER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of NEW MILESTONE. Shortly after straightening, TROPHY was steadied and shifted to the outside of AMO. S Sanders (GRAND FIGHTER) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 200 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of NEW MILESTONE, causing that horse to be crowded for room and checked. S Sanders was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 6 January 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong race days). The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Sunday 26 December 2004. In addition, S Sanders was fined $10,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday. After the 100 Metres, NEW MILESTONE and GOOD TRIO bumped. Also after the 100 Metres, the whip of O Doleuze (ABLE EAGLE) was knocked from his hand by the whip of H K Yim (WISHMASTER). BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart rhythm and had lost its left hind plate. As this is the second occasions on which BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY had been found to have an irregular heart rhythm, the horse will now be compulsorily retired. NEW MILESTONE, GRAND FIGHTER and AMO were sent for sampling. After the race, D Holland, rider of BRILLIANT EXPRESS, reported his mount was not striding out freely. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said there were no significant findings. Before being allowed to race again, BRILLIANT EXPRESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
