Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, TOURELLE LAD was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said the horse had blood present at its mouth as a result of a small laceration to the tongue and in his opinion was suitable to race. THUNDER STORM began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped MAGICAL LOT. KING OF FIELD was a little slow to begin, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ONE EYE JACK. At the 1200 Metres, KING OF FIELD was awkwardly placed inside the heels of VITAL FOUNTAIN which at this time got its head on the side and hung in. Prior to straightening, FOREVER WIN was checked when crowded for room between VITAL FOUNTAIN and KING OF FIELD (D Whyte) which at this time commenced to shift outwards to improve on the outside of DONGGUAN VICTORY which also shifted out. In the circumstances, it was decided not to take any direct action, however, D Whyte was advised to exercise more care. Near the 100 Metres, COTTON BALL was carried wider by KING OF FIELD which shifted to the outside of TRIUMPH into clear running. Whilst the Stewards were satisfied the riding of S Dye (A PLUS FIT) did not affect the horse's placing, he was nonetheless reminded of his responsibility to ride all his mounts out at least hands and heels right to the winning post. Mr Rodd (ELFHELM) reported in the early stages the horse was reluctant to stride out and became detached. He said making the turn at the 800 Metres he was able to join onto the back of the field, then in the Straight the horse closed the race off only fairly. ELFHELM was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, ELFHELM was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was lame in the left hind leg and further an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have a significant amount of mucopus in its trachea. Before being allowed to race again, ELFHELM will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. VITAL FOUNTAIN was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of VITAL FOUNTAIN after the race did not show any significant findings. ENCHANTED and TRIUMPH were sent for sampling.
