Racing Incident Report

After arriving at the Start, DEVIL MOON was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said the horse was lame in the left front leg. Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of DEVIL MOON. Before being allowed to race again, DEVIL MOON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SAN LORENZO was slow to begin. HAPPEE OWNER began awkwardly, shifted in and bumped SANBENITO. BEST LUCK began awkwardly. Near the 600 Metres, HAPPEE OWNER was steadied away from the heels of ABLE CHOICE. In the early part of the Straight, SAN LORENZO was unable to improve between BEARCAT and HAPPEE OWNER. Also in the early part of the Straight, SANBENITO was unable to improve when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FIFTY FIFTY. Near the 150 Metres, HAPPEE OWNER, which had been experiencing difficulty obtaining clear running, was checked when disappointed for running between ABLE CHOICE and SANZIRO which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SAN LORENZO which itself shifted ground. At the 150 Metres, SWISS LAD broke down. When SWISS LAD broke down, it shifted out abruptly and severely inconvenienced a number of runners, the worst affected being FIFTY FIFTY which when being checked blundered and almost fell, SANBENITO, ABLE CHOICE and HAPPEE OWNER which were all checked severely and SANZIRO which was hampered and carried wider. BEARCAT, which was following, was steadied and shifted in. Near the 100 Metres, GOODY was carried wider by WEALTHY which shifted out. For the major part of the race, SANZIRO raced wide and without cover. A Delpech (GOODY) said the intention had been to ride the horse further forward than usual due to the wide barrier and because of the manner in which today's track was racing. He said SIROCCO which had drawn to his inside began well and was immediately hard ridden to go forward, he therefore came back behind that runner to avoid racing wide. He said in the past GOODY has been a difficult horse to ride, when racing without cover can prove difficult to settle and as a consequence not finishing its races off, he therefore was mindful of obtaining cover in today's race. He said near the 1300 Metres BEST LUCK was racing to his inside and remained racing in a three wide position itself when proving difficult to settle, he therefore felt it was in the best interest of GOODY to further steady his mount and come back behind that runner, shift in and obtain a position with cover albeit at the tail of the field. WEALTHY and SAN LORENZO were sent for sampling.
