Racing Incident Report

As the gates opened, SUPER PEARL reared in the air, on landing became very unbalanced and as a consequence lost a significant amount of ground. SUPER PEARL then tailed out in the run and finished distanced. The performance of SUPER PEARL was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SUPER PEARL will have to perform satisfactorily and competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ELITE WIN was slow to begin, then despite being ridden along in the early stages failed to muster speed, was then allowed to settle in a rearward position and in the early stages proved difficult to settle. Due to the pace of the race in the early stages, a number of runners proved difficult to settle, the worst sufferers being HAPPY HEROES, MADE IN HONGKONG, ELFHELM and VITAL PATROL which was racing wide and without cover. Near the 800 Metres, MADE IN HONGKONG, which was continuing to prove difficult to settle, improved inside the heels of KNIGHT TEMPLAR. MADE IN HONGKONG was then steadied and shifted out. From near the 200 Metres until after the 100 Metres, ELFHELM was held up and unable to obtain clear running. Because of this, ELFHELM was not properly tested. SPECIFIC SORCEROR and SUPER PEARL were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SPECIFIC SORCEROR and SUPER PEARL after the race did not show any significant findings. VICTORY TREASURE and TREASURE FIELD were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 30 May 2005)
SUPER PEARL, which reared in the air as the gates opened, was examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. SUPER PEARL was again examined by the Senior Veterinary Officer at the stables of Trainer S Woods this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to have bruising to the forehead and the injury is consistent with the horse striking its head in the starting gates. As previously advised, SUPER PEARL will have to perform satisfactorily and competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
