Racing Incident Report
After arriving at the saddling stalls, it was noted the left hind plate of REGENCY HORSE had shifted. This plate was reset prior to the horse entering the Parade Ring. WIN AGAIN was slow to begin and then made the turn at the 800 Metres awkwardly. EASY PUNCH was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of QUALITY-QUALITY which shifted in after being bumped by REGENCY HORSE. Shortly after this, QUALITY-QUALITY shifted out and bumped REGENCY HORSE which in turn shifted ground and bumped CROWNED GEM. LIFELINE RAPIDE was slow to begin, then became unbalanced and lost ground. Near the 1200 Metres, after being ridden along to make up ground LIFELINE RAPIDE was steadied when crowded for room between EASY PUNCH and KAISER'S PRIZE which shifted in. REGENCY HORSE hung out making the Home Turn and in the Straight, then on two occasions close to the winning post shifted out and made contact with HIP HIP HOORAY. Near the 300 Metres, QUALITY-QUALITY, which was commencing to give ground, was checked when crowded for room between CROWNED GEM which shifted in and WIN AGAIN which when being ridden along to improve outside SUDDEN SPLENDOR was carried wider by that horse. In the circumstances, the Stewards did not believe it was appropriate to take action against any rider. For some distance after the 300 Metres, KAISER'S PRIZE raced tight inside SILVER SUN which drifted in. Also after the 300 Metres, WIN AGAIN was disappointed for running between SUDDEN SPLENDOR and CROWNED GEM which got its head on the side and shifted in. Near the 200 Metres, WIN AGAIN was checked when disappointed for running between SUDDEN SPLENDOR and CROWNED GEM which drifted in. After the 200 Metres, MR COOL, which was giving ground, was steadied when crowded for room between CIRCUIT KINGDOM and CROWNED GEM which was carried in by KAISER'S PRIZE which in turn was carried in by SILVER SUN (W M Lai). W M Lai was reprimanded and advised to exercise more care. K S Yu (EASY PUNCH) was unable to offer an explanation for the horse's poor performance. He said the work of EASY PUNCH leading into today's race in his opinion had been good and consequently the horse was given a good chance. He said at no stage of the race did EASY PUNCH travel well and in the Straight did not close off. EASY PUNCH was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of EASY PUNCH after the race did not show any significant findings. SILVER SUN, HIP HIP HOORAY and REGENCY HORSE were sent for sampling. After the race, LIFELINE RAPIDE was noted to be making an abnormal breathing noise. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said an endoscopic examination showed the horse to have left laryngeal paralysis ("roarer"). Before being allowed to race again, LIFELINE RAPIDE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
