Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the holding stalls, the right hind plate of TREASURE RAIDERS was reset. The horse was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said it was suitable to race. CHINOOK and CHERISHED were slow to begin. OLIVE OR TWIST began awkwardly and then after being ridden along to go forward was steadied away from the heels of COULDN'T CARE LESS for a short distance after the start. Shortly after the start, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was steadied away from the heels of SUNNY DESERT which shifted in slightly. After being crossed by TREASURE RAIDERS which shifted in when barely clear, FREEBIRD was steadied away from the heels of that horse near the 1300 Metres and shifted out. In the middle stages, PACIFIC ALLIANCE was obliged to race wide and without cover. Making the turn at the 600 Metres, CHINOOK became unbalanced when crowded for room inside KING OF THE TURF which got its head on the side and shifted in momentarily. TREASURE RAIDERS hung out in the Straight and proved difficult to ride. FREEBIRD hung in under pressure in the Straight and also proved difficult to ride. When questioned, S Dye (TREASURE RAIDERS) said he was instructed if the horse began well he should endeavour to lead on the horse as the track appeared to be suiting horses racing on the rail in a forward position. He said at its last start TREASURE RAIDERS got back in the field after beginning awkwardly and then failed to run on. Trainer P O'Sullivan will be interviewed at the Sha Tin Racecourse next Sunday 12 June 2005 regarding this matter. SUNNY DESERT was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SUNNY DESERT after the race did not show any significant findings. FREEBIRD, TREASURE RAIDERS and CHINOOK were sent for sampling.
