Racing Incident Report

SEASONS KNACK was slow to begin. MAGIC TOUCH was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of TRAVIANO. Making the first turn, GOLD FIELD raced tight inside SOCRATES which shifted in slightly when itself racing tight inside LANCETTIER. Also making the first turn, WADADELIGHT, which was proving difficult to settle, got is head up when being steadied away from the heels of KING HOGAN. Near the 200 Metres, SOCRATES, which was having difficulty obtaining clear running, was steadied and shifted to the outside of LANCETTIER to go forward. Near the 100 Metres, RAINBOW DIAMOND, which was closing the race off strongly, initially shifted towards the outside of KING HOGAN to continue going forward and was then steadied and shifted back to the inside of that horse. Throughout the race, WINNING SUNSHINE raced wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. D Whyte (LANCETTIER) said his mount travelled satisfactorily in the early stages and he remained racing three wide to avoid having the wet kickback strike the horse in the face. He said LANCETTIER continued to travel satisfactorily until he endeavoured to improve his position from after the 700 Metres. He said at this time LANCETTIER did not appear comfortable on the wet surface today, however, managed to stay on until after the 200 Metres and then gave ground quickly over the concluding stages. LANCETTIER was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of LANCETTIER after the race did not show any significant findings. W M Lai (WADADELIGHT) was unable to offer an explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said WADADELIGHT travelled comfortably throughout the run, however, did not respond to his riding in the Straight. He said the wet slow condition of today's All Weather surface might have contributed to the horse's poor performance. WADADELIGHT and GREAT LEADER were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of WADADELIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, GREAT LEADER was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a significant amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, GREAT LEADER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. ROYAL FALCON and TRAVIANO were sent for sampling.
