Racing Incident Report

THOUSAND WINS and CELEBRATION were slow to begin. TIRAMISU began awkwardly and lost ground. BRILLIANT FLASH, which was standing awkwardly, was slow to begin. Despite being ridden along in the early stages, ORIENTAL failed to muster speed and got well back. Making the turn after passing the winning post on the first occasion, EASY GAME got its head on the side and hung out. EASY GAME made the turn near the 1000 Metres awkwardly and got its head on the side. After the 600 Metres, ORIENTAL was carried wider by EASY GAME which shifted out to improve. Making the Home Turn, CELEBRATION was held up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of DANRIVA. At the 250 Metres, DANRIVA was steadied and shifted to the outside of SAMBUOYANT into clear running. Also at the 250 Metres, CLASSA WIN was steadied and shifted to the outside of PHOENIX FORTUNE into clear running. After the 200 Metres, PHOENIX FORTUNE, which was having some difficulty obtaining clear running, was shifted towards the outside of VICTORY MARBLE. D Whyte (THOUSAND WINS) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of that horse. He said after being slow to begin THOUSAND WINS travelled in a rearward position, then failed to respond to his riding in the Straight. He did point out in the past THOUSAND WINS had shown itself to be a horse which could mix its form. When questioned regarding SAMBUOYANT racing in a forward position tonight, B Prebble, the horse's rider, said it was not anticipated that the race would be run at a strong tempo as there only appeared to be one leader. He said because of this it was felt SAMBUOYANT which he believed to be somewhat one-paced would be able to obtain a more forward position than usual. He said from a favourable barrier he rode SAMBUOYANT along in the early stages, the horse travelled into the bridle nicely, he crossed to race outside the leader initially and then allowed TIRAMISU to provide him with cover passing the 1200 Metres. He said SAMBUOYANT raced a little keenly and did not relax as he would have hoped when racing behind TIRAMISU. THOUSAND WINS was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of THOUSAND WINS after the race did not show any significant findings. DASHING WINNER, CLASSA WIN and VICTORY MARBLE were sent for sampling.
