Racing Incident Report

Whilst in the Parade Ring, KORSAKOV became fractious and lost its left hind plate. The horse was returned to the saddling stalls, re-plated and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race. After arriving at the Start, RACING SPIRIT, which had made contact with KORSAKOV in the Parade Ring, was examined by the Veterinary Surgeon. He said in his opinion the horse was suitable to race. LUCKY SPECIAL began awkwardly and got its head up, then shortly afterwards was crowded for room between LUCKY STALLION and COMPASSIONATE which shifted in after being bumped by RACING SPIRIT. Making the turn at the 1000 Metres, HUANG PU DRAGON was steadied away from the heels of CHAMPION WINNER. Approaching the 600 Metres, LUCKY SPECIAL got its head up when proving difficult to settle and was checked away from the heels of COMPASSIONATE. At the 600 Metres, WISE LOVER became unbalanced when racing outside LUCKY SPECIAL and shifted out, causing CHOSEN ONE to be checked and shifted out away from its heels which in turn caused inconvenience to KAO AND MING which was hampered and carried wider. On straightening, EUPHORIC KID became unbalanced and shifted in when close to the heels of KORSAKOV. For some distance after the 200 Metres, WISE LOVER was held up when attempting to improve between CHOSEN ONE and HUANG PU DRAGON which shifted out. H K Yim (COMPASSIONATE) pleaded guilty to two counts of careless riding [Rule 100(1)]. The particulars of the first count were that after the 800 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of LUCKY SPECIAL, causing that horse to lose its rightful running and be checked. In respect to this matter, H K Yim was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday 17 November 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (3 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of this suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 5 November 2005. The particulars of the second count were that near the 250 Metres he shifted his mount out when not clear of KORSAKOV, causing that horse to be bumped, become unbalanced, shift out and in turn come into contact with HUANG PU DRAGON which as a result shifted ground and came into contact with CHOSEN ONE which was bumped and severely hampered. WISE LOVER and KAO AND MING, which were following, were hampered in consequence. In respect to this matter, H K Yim was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday 21 November 2005 on which day he may resume race riding (4 Hong Kong racedays). The commencement of this suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting next Saturday 5 November 2005. Both penalties are to be served concurrently. C Brown (KORSAKOV) reported his saddle shifted forward near the 800 Metres when the horse was proving difficult to settle. W M Lai (TOUCH DOWN) explained in the Straight he rode his mount out hands and heels and it responded strongly. He said he did not hit TOUCH DOWN with the whip but rather waved it at the horse as in his opinion it was doing its best being ridden in the manner in which it was. W M Lai was told he must at all times ride his mounts out in a manner which is not open to query and ensure they are fully tested. WISE LOVER, CHAMPION WINNER and COMPASSIONATE were sent for sampling.
