Racing Incident Report

DRAGON INN was slow to begin, then shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of AMSTERDAM. SYDNEY EXPRESS began awkwardly and bounded in the air. For some distance after the 1200 Metres, TOFFEE, which had been hard ridden in the early stages to go forward, was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOOD BA BA which after crossing to the fence steadied. For some distance in the early stages, SHOGUN proved difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of VISIONNAIRE. Making the first turn, LUCKY DANSKE and ELEGANT KING PRAWN, which were racing wide and without cover, were allowed to stride forward. Making the turn at the 800 Metres, SHOGUN was shifted out away from the heels of VISIONNAIRE. As a consequence, FAIR WIN was carried wider. After this, SHOGUN raced wide and without cover. After the 400 Metres, SPACED was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY MARAUDING which when shifted out to obtain clear running was checked away from the heels of LUCKY DANSKE. Near the 300 Metres, SYDNEY EXPRESS, which was commencing to close the race off strongly, was checked to avoid the heels of AMSTERDAM which was giving ground. Near the 100 Metres, FAIR WIN was momentarily awkwardly placed between GOOD BA BA and FUJI SUNRISE. The performance of SPACED, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, SPACED will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. F Coetzee (LUCKY DANSKE) said despite racing wide the horse was beaten on straightening and in his opinion was most disappointing. He was unable to offer any explanation for the performance and said he had only ridden LUCKY DANSKE in slow work leading into the race and this work in his opinion was only fair. LUCKY DANSKE was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of LUCKY DANSKE after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LUCKY DANSKE was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LUCKY DANSKE will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. FUJI SUNRISE and GOOD BA BA were sent for sampling. The Veterinary Officer reported following the race ELEGANT KING PRAWN had blood present at its left nostril. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clean and therefore it was not deemed to have bled. Before being allowed to race again, ELEGANT KING PRAWN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. Also after the race, it was reported SYDNEY EXPRESS had lost its right front plate.
