Racing Incident Report
A PLUS FIT began awkwardly, then despite being ridden along failed to muster speed. MASTER ABLE began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped VINCERE. WINNING SMILE was slow to begin. Making the first turn, RAIN IN SPRING raced tight inside ONLY YOU. Near the 1100 Metres, WINNING SMILE was steadied away from the heels of ONLY YOU. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, A PLUS FIT hung in. On straightening, WINNING SMILE was checked when disappointed for running between MODERN PROSPECT and BALL OF FIRE. Near the 100 Metres, H K Yim (BALL OF FIRE), which was hanging in, dropped his left rein. In the early part of the Straight, SUPER BALL hung in. In the Straight, MASTER ABLE got its head on the side and shifted out. Throughout the race, MODERN PROSPECT raced wide and without cover. F Coetzee (SUPER BALL) said he had been instructed to ride the horse which had drawn wide and was having its first run over 1650 Metres from the rear. He said he had been asked to have the horse miss the start slightly, then immediately shifted across behind runners. He said because of these instructions he did not encourage SUPER BALL to begin, however, the horse jumped well and as a number of runners on his inside did not begin cleanly, he elected to ride along for a short distance, immediately shift across and obtain a position behind the leaders. He said SUPER BALL initially travelled comfortably for him, however, when the pace of the race steadied after entering the Back Straight, SUPER BALL commenced to over-race. TIRAMISU and MODERN PROSPECT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of TIRAMISU and MODERN PROSPECT after the race did not show any significant findings. WINNING SMILE, RAIN IN SPRING and THUNDER MAN were sent for sampling.
