Racing Incident Report

After runners for this race had been saddled and were being paraded, Mr J P Ridley, Clerk of the Course, reported to the Stewards that a piece of lead weighing 0.8 of a pound was found on the ground in front of the saddling stall in which ASAKUSA DEN'EN had been saddled. The Stewards spoke to all riders who said that they did not weigh out with that particular piece of lead. It was therefore decided that all jockeys should re-weigh to ensure their mounts were carrying the correct weight. Permission was given for O Peslier (HAT TRICK) not to re-weigh as he did not weigh out with a lead bag and in addition permission was given for G Mossé (BULLISH LUCK) not to re-weigh as he weighed out without lead. On being re-weighed, it was established all jockeys were at the correct weight. This resulted in a considerable delay to the start of this race. Subsequently the Stewards became aware that this piece of lead had been present where it was found for some time. Mr M Y K Cheng, Clerk of the Scales, was interviewed together with Mr C P Kwan, Assistant Clerk of the Scales. Mr Cheng and Mr Kwan advised the Stewards in accordance with Hong Kong Rules of Racing, all riders who had competed prior to Race 7 had been weighed in following their race with the exception of Apprentice P H Lo and E Saint-Martin who had fallen in Race 2. Further they advised the Stewards that all riders had weighed in at their correct weight. As the Stewards were unable to determine the origin of the lead and they were satisfied all horses that had run had carried their correct weight, they did not proceed with the matter any further at this time. If the Stewards become aware of additional information, this matter will be re-visited. DESIGNED FOR LUCK was withdrawn on 9.12.05 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right hind fetlock). RAKTI was slow to begin. DAVE'S BEST was slow to begin and shortly afterwards was steadied away from the heels of BULLISH LUCK. HAT TRICK began awkwardly. COURT MASTERPIECE began awkwardly, bumped the outside gate of its stall and as a consequence lost ground. At the 1400 Metres, RAKTI, which was proving difficult to settle, was steadied away from the heels of HIGH INTELLIGENT. At the same time, SUPER KID was steadied away from the heels of PERFECT PARTNER. In the early part of the Straight, COURT MASTERPIECE had difficulty obtaining clear running inside RAKTI. At the 300 Metres, ASAKUSA DEN'EN and HAT TRICK became unbalanced after bumping. Also at the 300 Metres, SUPER KID raced tight between WEALTHY and TOWN OF FIONN which when giving ground was shifted out after being brushed by BULLISH LUCK. After the 200 Metres, COURT MASTERPIECE, which was closing the race off, was steadied and shifted to the inside of SCINTILLATION. Near the 150 Metres, HIGH INTELLIGENT was hit over the nose by the whip of E Saint-Martin (SCINTILLATION). Throughout the race, TOWN OF FIONN raced wide and without cover. RAKTI was sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of RAKTI after the race did not show any significant findings. BULLISH LUCK, HAT TRICK and THE DUKE were sent for sampling. The Stewards will interview S Fujita, the rider of ASAKUSA DEN'EN, 6th placegetter, regarding his riding over the concluding stages tomorrow.
