Racing Incident Report

EXPEDITIOUS jumped awkwardly, bumped the inside gate of its stall and then was bumped by VIKING TOR which shifted out. After passing the winning post on the first occasion, PIONERO was checked and blundered when crowded for room inside I'M NO SQUARE which got its head on the side and shifted in away from VITAL PATROL which at this time was carried in slightly by VIKING TOR which got its head on the side and shifted in away from the heels of FRIENDSHIP which shifted in when barely clear. In the opinion of the Stewards, there were a number of circumstances surrounding the incident and whilst it was one of some significance, they did not believe it was appropriate to take any action. In the early and middle stages, EXPEDITIOUS raced wide and without cover. H K Yim (CAPITALAND) said he had been instructed to miss the start and shift across behind runners from a wide barrier to a position on the rail. He said he was told to obtain cover and in the Straight shift his horse out and to try his best. He said in accordance with his instructions he shortly after the start shifted CAPITALAND across behind runners to a position on the rail where he remained racing until entering the Back Straight. He said after entering the Back Straight he gradually commenced to improve his position on the inside of DIAMOND ERA and behind PIONERO. He said making the turn at the 600 Metres PIONERO did not continue going forward and as a consequence he steadied away from the heels of that horse. He said when he did this PIONERO went forward and KIDDY SING improved on his outside. He said after the 400 Metres he endeavoured to shift away from behind PIONERO, however, had some difficulty doing so as KIDDY SING continued to race tight on his outside. He said shortly after straightening he commenced to ride CAPITALAND along, the horse immediately started to hang in and proved difficult for him. He said at the 200 Metres he shifted to the outside of I'M NO SQUARE into clear running, commenced again to ride along hands and heels and shortly afterwards took his left hand away from the rein to ride CAPITALAND out fully. He said however as he did this VITAL PATROL shifted out from his inside which caused CAPITALAND which was continuing to hang in to be awkwardly placed outside the heels of that horse. He said he again shifted CAPITALAND out, rode it along and over the concluding stages pulled the whip through from the left hand into the right hand when it hung in badly. He said despite CAPITALAND hanging in the horse closed the race off strongly. H K Yim was told whilst CAPITALAND might have been hanging in, his riding had come under notice and he being a senior rider would be expected to do his utmost to ensure mounts ridden by him were fully tested. VIKING TOR, PIONERO and CAPITALAND were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, VIKING TOR was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, VIKING TOR will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of PIONERO and CAPITALAND after the race did not show any significant findings. DIAMOND ERA and DORDENMA were sent for sampling.
Additional Veterinary Reports (released on 19 January 2006)
PIONERO, which performed poorly, was examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison. He said at that time there were no significant findings. PIONERO was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer C Fownes this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be slightly lame in the left front leg. Before being allowed to race again, PIONERO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
