Racing Incident Report

GOLD SANDFIELD and GLOBE RIVER were slow to begin. LUCKY DIAMOND began awkwardly. FEEL-SO-GOOD began awkwardly and bumped the outside gate of its stall. BRIGHT AND GAY was a little slow to begin and then was steadied away from the heels of FEBURO which shifted out. From the outside gate and with the intention of being ridden quietly, A PLUS FIT was immediately taken across behind runners. Approaching the 1400 Metres, MASTER DREAMER was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY DIAMOND which was carried out by STAR OF NORTHERN which in turn was carried wider by PRESENT TREASURE which got its head on the side and shifted ground. After the 1400 Metres, FEBURO shifted in abruptly. After the 1000 Metres, GLOBE RIVER was steadied away from the heels of STAR OF NORTHERN which lost ground after becoming unbalanced when crowded for room between HARRY HARRY and LUCKY DIAMOND. FEBURO, which was following GLOBE RIVER, was steadied to avoid the heels of that horse, shifted out and caused some inconvenienced to A PLUS FIT. After this on two occasions, FEBURO and A PLUS FIT bumped and became unbalanced. At the 600 Metres, BRIGHT AND GAY was awkwardly placed inside the heels of MASTER DREAMER. At the 300 Metres, DEFLECT, which was commencing to close the race off, was shifted out abruptly in an endeavour to find clear running. For a considerable distance after the 300 Metres, HARRY HARRY had difficulty obtaining clear running between TERRAFERMA and PRESENT TREASURE. Near the 100 Metres, FEBURO was steadied when crowded for room between MASTER DREAMER and DEFLECT which when endeavouring to improve outside the heels of STAR OF NORTHERN was carried out slightly by that horse which was giving ground. DEFLECT was then steadied and shifted to the inside of STAR OF NORTHERN. No action was taken. Over the concluding stages, PRESENT TREASURE hung in. Throughout the race, MASTER DREAMER travelled wide and without cover. When questioned, D Whyte (GLOBE RIVER) explained after the 400 Metres he commenced to improve his position inside STAR OF NORTHERN, however, at that time the rider of GOLD SANDFIELD looked to his outside and turned the horse's head outwards and he felt this horse would shift out and cause interference to him, therefore he momentarily steadied his mount. He did say in his opinion GLOBE RIVER was not travelling well enough to establish the position outside GOLD SANDFIELD prior to that horse shifting. He said this was shown by the manner in which the horse finished the race off. MEDIC LEGION was sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, MEDIC LEGION was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said the horse was displaying an irregular heart beat. Before being allowed to race again, MEDIC LEGION will have to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. LUCKY DIAMOND and HARRY HARRY were sent for sampling. After the race, it was reported STAR OF NORTHERN had sustained a laceration to the left front pastern.
