Racing Incident Report

FIRST AMONG EQUALS was withdrawn on 28.3.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inappetence) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter MASTER GIGOLO (E Saint-Martin). Before being allowed to race again, FIRST AMONG EQUALS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. When the gates opened, LOYAL KNIGHT bounded in the air, bumped the inside gate of its stall and as a consequence lost a considerable amount of ground. When LOYAL KNIGHT bumped the inside gate of its stall, Apprentice C W Wong, the horse's rider, reported he hit his right leg on the barrier which placed him at a disadvantage throughout. SHINY RIBBON began awkwardly. On jumping, JOYFUL SPIRIT shifted out abruptly. Also on jumping, EQUATOR KID was crowded for room between FASHION JEWELLERY and SELF FLIT. From a wide barrier, MASTER GIGOLO on jumping was steadied and shifted across behind runners. From the outside barrier, STABLE MAIL was taken across behind runners. In the early stages, FASHION JEWELLERY got its head up when being steadied to obtain a position with cover. After the 1200 Metres, E Saint-Martin reached down with his left hand and adjusted his foot in the stirrup. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, GRAND CENTRAL had difficulty obtaining clear running behind SELF FLIT and inside SMACKO, both of which were giving ground. Near the 200 Metres, EQUATOR KID was struck over the nose by the whip of Apprentice C K Tong (JOYFUL SPIRIT). Throughout the race, JOYFUL SPIRIT travelled wide and without cover. SELF FLIT, MASTER GIGOLO and LOYAL KNIGHT were sent for an official veterinary inspection. After the race, SELF FLIT was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SELF FLIT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. After the race, MASTER GIGOLO was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed the horse had a pharyngeal collapse. Before being allowed to race again, MASTER GIGOLO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. A veterinary inspection of LOYAL KNIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. DON FELIPE, SHINY RIBBON and GOLDEN SUN were sent for sampling. After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the tracheas of DON FELIPE and FASHION JEWELLERY. Before being allowed to race again, DON FELIPE and FASHION JEWELLERY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

MASTER GIGOLO
MASTER GIGOLO, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time an endoscopic examination showed the horse had a pharyngeal collapse. MASTER GIGOLO was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer J Moore this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be lame in the right front leg. As previously advised, MASTER GIGOLO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination before being permitted to race again.
LOYAL KNIGHT
LOYAL KNIGHT, which performed poorly, was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said at that time there were no significant findings. LOYAL KNIGHT was again examined by the Head of Veterinary Regulation & International Liaison at the stables of Trainer J Moore this morning. He said at this time he noted the horse to be very lame in the left front leg with a strained superficial digital flexor tendon. Before being permitted to race again, LOYAL KNIGHT will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
