Racing Incident Report

EVER SUCCESS was withdrawn on 6.5.06 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right fore suspensory) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter WINNING PATTERN (M W Leung). Before being allowed to race again, EVER SUCCESS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. On jumping, WISE LOVER was crowded for room between WHIPLASH and WINNING BULLET. WINNING PATTERN began awkwardly, got its head up, shifted in and bumped the hindquarters of FAIR WIN. After the 1200 Metres, LUCKY DANSKE was steadied away from the heels of FLAME POWER which shifted in slightly. In the early stages, FLAME POWER was ridden along to go forward, however, travelled wide and without cover. Approaching the 600 Metres, WINNING PATTERN was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY DANSKE which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FLAME POWER. Shortly after straightening, FAIR WIN was steadied away from the heels of CHATER SILK. For a considerable distance approaching and passing the 300 Metres, WISE LOVER was held up and unable to improve. Approaching the 300 Metres, GUNG HO was brushed and carried wider by WINNING BULLET which at this time shifted to the outside of ENCHANTED into clear running. After the 200 Metres, WINNING BULLET was momentarily crowded for room between ENCHANTED and GUNG HO, both of which shifted ground. Near the 100 Metres, FLAME POWER and LUCKY DANSKE were crowded for room between LE ROSSIGNOL and REGAL THRILLS which shifted out. At the 50 Metres, ENCHANTED and WINNING BULLET were crowded for room between CHATER SILK which shifted out momentarily and GUNG HO which shifted in while hanging. When questioned, W C Marwing (LE ROSSIGNOL) said at its first race start in Hong Kong the horse had led and failed to finish the race off strongly. He said today from the outside barrier the intention was to ride LE ROSSIGNOL in a position with cover behind the leaders if possible. He said LE ROSSIGNOL began well, he did not ride along in the early stages, however, the horse immediately commenced to over-race and would not settle. He said after the 1200 Metres FLAME POWER and LUCKY DANSKE had improved on his inside and he was hoping those horses would cross and provide him with cover following them, however, they did not have sufficient pace to do so and as a consequence LE ROSSIGNOL travelled four wide and without cover and would not relax underneath him. He did say in hindsight it might have been better to allow LE ROSSIGNOL to continue forward, however, in his opinion the riding instructions issued to him were specific. Mr D Cruz, trainer of LE ROSSIGNOL, confirmed the instructions issued to W C Marwing and said when the horse led at its previous start he had been disappointed with the manner in which it closed the race off. He said in the circumstances he was satisfied with W C Marwing's riding of LE ROSSIGNOL. WHIPLASH was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of WHIPLASH after the race did not show any significant findings. CHATER SILK and GUNG HO were sent for sampling.
