Racing Incident Report

SUNNY RIVIERA and CLASSIC DELIGHT were slow to begin. AMSTERDAM began awkwardly and then bumped with HAPPY CONTENDER. On jumping, SOCRATES knuckled. At the 600 Metres, AMSTERDAM was bumped by CLASSIC DELIGHT which at this time was endeavouring to shift to the outside of DAY OR NIGHT which was giving ground. After this, CLASSIC DELIGHT was taken back to the inside of DAY OR NIGHT. On straightening, DAY OR NIGHT, which was continuing to give ground, was bumped by CLASSIC DELIGHT which shifted out. DAY OR NIGHT was then steadied away from the heels of CLASSIC DELIGHT. At the 400 Metres, CLASSIC DELIGHT and AMSTERDAM bumped as CLASSIC DELIGHT shifted towards the outside of TACTIC KING. Over the concluding stages, GOLD FIELD hung out. Throughout the race, CONNOISSEUR'S LOVE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground. C Munce (DAY OR NIGHT) said the intention had been to ride the horse somewhere around midfield. He said DAY OR NIGHT began well, immediately travelled into a forward position, however, was obliged to race wide and without cover. He said DAY OR NIGHT travelled satisfactorily until the 800 Metres when it came under pressure, it immediately became unbalanced in its action and commenced to give ground. He said DAY OR NIGHT continued to give ground until after straightening and when it was apparent to him that the horse was unbalanced due to the track conditions, he did not persist in riding DAY OR NIGHT out in the run to the line. DAY OR NIGHT and SOCRATES were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DAY OR NIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, SOCRATES was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of mucopus in the horse's trachea. Before being allowed to race again, SOCRATES will be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DASH AHEAD and ELEPHANT DANCE were sent for sampling.
