Racing Incident Report

On jumping, DRAGON INN and SOUND OF SILENCE bumped. Also on jumping, WAIT FOR ME blundered. From a wide barrier, QUALITY-QUALITY was taken across behind runners in the early stages. Making the turn at the 1200 Metres, CHINA SPORTFIELD, which was racing wide and without cover, hung out. Making the turn at the 700 Metres, DRAGON INN was awkwardly placed inside the heels of NOBLE WIND which got its head on the side and shifted in. Also at the 700 Metres, FAIRPLAY was momentarily steadied away from the heels of CHINA SPORTFIELD which commenced to give ground. For some distance approaching and passing the 500 Metres, QUALITY-QUALITY was held up and unable to improve when racing behind DRAGON INN and inside the heels of FAIRPLAY which was giving ground. Approaching the 400 Metres, MAGIC TOUCH was steadied when awkwardly placed inside the heels of LAZY BUDDIES and outside WAIT FOR ME which itself shifted out when being steadied away from the heels of CHINA SPORTFIELD which continued to give ground. Just prior to the winning post, Y T Cheng (SOUND OF SILENCE) dropped his whip. When questioned regarding the poor performance of LAZY BUDDIES, D Whyte said in the early stages the horse did face the kickback and got its head up. He said because of this near the 1200 Metres he shifted LAZY BUDDIES to the outside of the field and the horse then commenced to improve its position. He said making the turn at the 700 Metres he again shifted to a position with cover as he believed this would be beneficial to his mount, however, from that point onwards LAZY BUDDIES felt unbalanced and was most disappointing. LAZY BUDDIES was sent for an official veterinary inspection and sampling. A veterinary inspection of LAZY BUDDIES after the race did not show any significant findings. The performance of LAZY BUDDIES was considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, LAZY BUDDIES will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. The performances of WAIT FOR ME, CHINA SPORTFIELD and FAIRPLAY, which tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, WAIT FOR ME, CHINA SPORTFIELD and FAIRPLAY will have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. SHINING DAY, CHINA SPORTFIELD and FAIRPLAY were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of SHINING DAY, CHINA SPORTFIELD and FAIRPLAY after the race did not show any significant findings. GOLCONDA and BIG WINNER were sent for sampling. After riding in this race, W C Marwing approached the Stewards and stated that due to his wasting and today's heat, he was somewhat dehydrated. This was confirmed by the Club's doctor. He requested permission to forgo his ride on SEVENS HEAVEN in Race 4 with a view to being able to fulfil his remaining riding engagements. Such a request would not normally be acceded to, however, in view of the limited availability of riders, the Stewards on this occasion granted permission for W C Marwing to forgo the ride on SEVENS HEAVEN. As such, D Dunn was substituted as the rider of SEVENS HEAVEN.
