Racing Incident Report

From an outside draw, ESPRIT D'OR was taken across behind runners. In the early stages, DURABLE raced wide and without cover. At the 1300 Metres, ESPRIT D'OR became unbalanced when awkwardly placed inside the heels of FUN CRUISER. After the 600 Metres, LUCKY YEARS lost ground when being steadied away from the heels of MASONIC TREASURE which at this time was giving ground. For the major part of the race, MODERN PROSPECT raced wide and without cover. M Odendaal (FAIRPLAY) was unable to offer any explanation for the poor performance of the horse. He said FAIRPLAY travelled in a three wide position outside the leaders and was not travelling well enough after entering the Back Straight to go forward and take up the lead. He said at the 600 Metres FAIRPLAY was already under some pressure and in the Straight gave ground. The declaration of weighed-in was deferred while the Stewards considered whether BAYVIEW LAD had had an unfair start. The evidence disclosed that BAYVIEW LAD, which had been fractious in its stall, was standing correctly when the gates opened, then reared, struck its head on an overhead bar and lost a considerable amount of ground. In the opinion of the Stewards, BAYVIEW LAD had not had an unfair start and therefore weighed-in was declared on the numbers as semaphored by the Judge. Before being allowed to race again, BAYVIEW LAD will have to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test. The performances of DANCING FAITH and MASONIC TREASURE, which finished tailed out, were considered unacceptable. Before being allowed to race again, DANCING FAITH and MASONIC TREASURE will both have to perform competitively in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination. DANCING FAITH, MASONIC TREASURE and BAYVIEW LAD were sent for an official veterinary inspection. A veterinary inspection of DANCING FAITH and MASONIC TREASURE after the race did not show any significant findings. After the race, BAYVIEW LAD was examined by the Veterinary Officer. He said he noted blood present at the left nostril of the horse, however, an endoscopic examination showed the horse's trachea to be clean and therefore was not deemed to have bled. MASTER ABLE and MADE IN HONGKONG were sent for sampling.
